Raindrop Rally 2006

The HMS Discovery
HMS Discovery, 1792
Captain George Vancouver

Raindrop Rally is a leisurely paced touring TSD event with fine driving roads, minimum traffic and wonderful scenery. The rally is geared toward the novice entrant with no traps and mileages for every instruction but precise timekeeping will still be required to score well. This year’s event tours Whidbey Island and will have a decidedly nautical flavor with many historical references. All paved roads are used except for ¼ mile of smooth gravel. There will be numerous short break opportunities but no assigned lunch stop. The rally is 5 to 5½ hours in length and about 120 miles. Entry will be limited to 35 cars.

Date: Sunday, April 23, 2006

Start Location: Dan Porter Memorial Park, Clinton, Whidbey Island

Finish Location: Anacortes, WA

Rallymaster: Steve Richards, 425-337-0232

Registrar: Eric Horst

Classes: Novice, SOP, Equipped, and Unlimited. No vintage class. See the General Instructions for class details.

General Instructions: Raindrop uses the Rainier Auto Sports Club Touring General Instructions available in Rally Reference.

A Note from the Rallymaster

Rally name notwithstanding, I will take the weather we had on Sunday, anytime.  Running up front in pace was such a pleasure seeing all the incredible views that, on previous sorties, had been diminished or even hidden altogether by overcast and rain. My only heart stopping moments on Sunday, were coming up on checkpoint locations and not seeing many of the crews until I was right on top of them. Rainier seems to have a real knack for doing that.

I cannot thank enough, all the workers, named elsewhere in these results, who helped to make the rally a success.  But I do want to give special thanks to:

Checkout crew:  Eric Horst, Steve Willey, Dan Comden, Marvin Crippen and Mark Weber, who all made sure the Ayes were dotted and the Tees were crossed.
Trophy and plaque committee: Mark Nolte and Mike Jones.
Checkpoints:  Vince Plancich who does an outstanding job of writing crew instructions, which include pictures of the CP location and timing marks.  Vince made several trips to the island to complete this assignment.
And finally to Eric (registration), Marvin (scoring), and Dan (number acquisition and Novice meeting) who helped with all the last minute details during the final two weeks leading up to the rally.
