1996 Evergreen State 1000 Rally

September 14-15, 1996

Presented by Rainier Auto Sports Club

The touring rally takes rallyists to the far northeast comer of Washington State. Carrying on the tradition of adventure, the time spent rallying won't get in the way of a great weekend of touring and exploring.

The Plan: Rallyists are encouraged to converge on Moses Lake on Friday night, since we get off to a 9 am start on Saturday. Moses Lake is 178 miles east of Seattle, on I-90.

The rally heads for the "NE Corner", mostly on paved roads. Start with rolling wheat fields, then into the lovely river valleys, and finally to Metaline Falls, as far north as the rally goes. A couple of hours spent touring the area's attractions will be the highlight of the weekend. We intend to tour Gardner Cave at Crawford State Park, bring a warm jacket, since it's 41 degrees year around.

The rallyists will overnight in Colville, with a dinner/banquet, as is traditional

Sunday gets the rallyists through some back country roads, with brief views for the alert crews. Stopping by Fort Spokane, the rallyists may appreciate how remote the place was in 1890. The rally will finish in Moses Lake at 3, with trophies handed out by 4.

Format: "So many roads, so little time." Carrying on tradition, only the TSD sections will be scored, making up about a third of the rally, The rest is divided into Transits and what we call "Rally Transit Zones": fast transits on the finest roads. Due to the unique character of the area, this can be done in a rental car (a bit more civilized than ES's of past). About 20% gravel roads, not rough, but dusty. The rally route is equivalent to 580 mfles.

There are no planned meal stops, but there is time to eat snacks between Sections.

Expenses: Entry fee is $120, reflecting the costs of putting on a first class event. The entry fee includes Saturday dinner for two ($15 per person). A $15 discount is offered for early registration before September 6. Researching Moses Lake rooms continues, with the idea of just getting a place to "crash" before the rally (no exercise room, room service, etc.) (A Neil Young concert at the Gorge may fill up the town!)

Saturday Host Motel is Benny's Colville Inn, 1-800-680-2517. Mention you're with the rally. The "new building" rooms are very nice, and we've secured a rate of $58 for two people. The "old building" is acceptable, $44 for two. They have a lap pool and Jacuzzi on site, and you also get free use of the Colville Fitness Center a couple of blocks away.

Registration: Send a self-addressed envelope to
